For the Hacon’s, Branches Performing Arts has been more than just a dance school - it’s been a second home. Over the past decade, Tracey mother of Clara, Rory and Alice has watched her three children grow, not only as dancers but as confident, creative and resilient individuals. Now, as her youngest daughter, Alice, heads off to boarding school in 2025, Tracey reflects on their family’s incredible journey with Branches Performing Arts.
It all started when Tracey enrolled her eldest child in a ballet class at Branches Performing Arts. Living in a rural community, opportunities for creative expression weren’t always easy to come by. But from the moment they stepped through the studio doors, Tracey could see the benefits of dance.
Soon, all three of her children were dancing. From ballet and jazz to tap and lyrical, they explored every style Branches had to offer.
For Tracey’s youngest daughter, Alice, dance was more than just an after-school activity—it became a support for learning. Alice has faced learning difficulties that made traditional classroom settings challenging. But in the dance studio, she discovered a place where she could thrive.
“Dance gave Alice a way to express herself and strengthened her ability to process,” Tracey shares. “It helped with her coordination, focus and memory and it taught her how to set goals and work step-by-step to achieve them.”
Alice’s progress in dance spilled over into other areas of her life. Her ability to memorise choreography boosted her learning skills and the structure of dance classes improved her focus and discipline.
“Seeing her skills and confidence grow has been incredible,” Tracey says. “Dance instilled a lot of self belief in Alice.”
For Tracey’s family, dance became a part of their everyday lives. Costumes filled the cupboards, weekends were spent at rehearsals and competitions and their lounge room has even become a dance studio at times. But it wasn’t just about the dance steps.
Tracey encourages other parents—especially those whose children may be facing their own challenges—to give dance a try.
As Alice steps into her next adventure, Tracey takes comfort in knowing that the skills and confidence built at Branches will guide her wherever she goes. And while the Hacons’ time at the studio may be ending, their story will always be woven into the fabric of Branches Performing Arts.
For parents considering enrolling their children, Tracey’s story is a reminder of the impact a supportive and nurturing creative space can have—not just for kids, but for entire families.
